PHED 2996: Cardio Conditioning
Cardio conditioning will help students learn to enhance their aerobic conditioning levels through proper heart rate tracking using equipment such as treadmills, recumbent bike, elliptical machines, stair climbers, upper body ergometers and row machines. Students will also participate in exercise complexes to help elevate heart rate and improve endurance.

PHED 2230 (formerly PENP 141) – Intermediate Golf
This course is designed for the intermediate golfer. By the end of the course, students will know shot making, how to problem solve different shots/lies, be it the fairway, sand trap, putting green, or tee shot. (Class held at Isleta Golf Resort)

PHED 1620: Introduction to Fitness
Introduction to Fitness is a self-paced exercise course designed for students to utilize the gym facilities to fit their time constraints. Students will learn, through online labs, various topics that include, fitness, nutrition, heart rate, goal planning and self-awareness & reflection. Students have access to Wellness Center gym facilities, personal training, body fat % testing, nutrition advice, exercise planning, and movement screens by one of our certified personal trainers.

PHED 1710 (formerly PENP 136) - Personal Defense
Personal Defense teaches awareness, assertiveness, verbal confrontation skills, safety strategies, and physical techniques that enable someone to successfully escape, resist, and survive violent attacks.

PHED 1430 (formerly PENP 156) – Pilates
Exercises are done reclined: prone, supine and side-lying. Breathing, technique and alignment emphasized. Strengthening for abdominals, lower buttocks and pelvic floor as well as arms and legs.

PHED 1420 (formerly PENP 178) – Stretch & Relax
Stretch & Relax is designed to help individuals decrease stress placed on muscles and mind from everyday life. Students will learn a variety of stretching techniques using several pieces of equipment. Students will also learn and develop stress reliving techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing and art therapy.

PHED 1440 (formerly PENP 130) – Tai Chi Chuan
Originally developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, tai chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.click here

PHED 1510 (formerly PENP 114) – Weight Training and Physical Conditioning
Students will understand basic muscles, warm-up/stretching routines, and begin a weight training program for development of strength, power, hypertrophy, endurance, or weight loss. Students will learn to develop a strength training program based on individualized goals and use of a one repetition maximum. Students will also participate in body fat % testing methods and BMI.

PHED 2510 (formerly PENP 115) – Intermediate Weight Training
Students will take a deeper understanding of proper exercises and will learn to develop proper form and knowledge of the squat, deadlift, pull-up, bench press and other fundamental core exercises. The students will learn to develop a comprehensive individualized weight training program to meet their specific needs. It is preferable that student take PENP 114 prior to taking this class.

PHED 1410 (formerly PENP 165) – Yoga
Class begins with relaxation and breath awareness. Practice continues with a variation of Surya Namaskar (sun salutation: a moving sequence of postures), as well as standing postures. Detailed alignment is emphasized. Improves Joint stability, strength and flexibility and balance.

PHED 2410 (formerly PENP 166) – Intermediate Yoga
A more challenging Surya Namaskar (sun salutation), and standing poses are practiced, including backbends and inversions. This class is intended to build on the first eight week yoga course. Yoga experience is recommended.

PHED 2996: Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga is the Practice of deep relaxation. Reclined therapeutic postures are supported and held in stillness for approximately 10 minutes each. A restful, and stress relieving practice.

Zumba
Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music / dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, and based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO." The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.

This course uses lectures, demonstrations, and practice time to teach the basic skills needed to play a round of golf, with an emphasizes on principles of the full swing, the chip, the putt, basic rules of play, equipment, golf etiquette, safety, and golf terminology. (Class held at Isleta Golf Resort)
