Community Education Services is located at the Workforce Training Center. Community Education is comprised of the following programs providing learning opportunities for citizens of all ages.
CPR and First Aid Training: Classes offered monthly through our American Heart Association Training Center open to the public. Employers can call 505.925.8656 for information on becoming a training site.
Workforce Training: Customized training for business, industry and government entities, offered on campus or at your place of business to prepare your employees to better serve your company's needs. A variety of career-technical programs are also available for individuals to enhance their skills in order to enter the workforce or to embark on new careers.
Cultural Enrichment Series: This series brings a wide variety of informational lectures and entertainment from cultures around the world, and in subjects of all disciplines.
Off Campus Instruction: College credit courses are offered at off-campus sites.
Facility Master Scheduling: Profit and non-profit organizations are welcome to use the facilities if available.

Summer 2025 Community Education Classes
PD0107 Cybersecurity Fundamentals
This course covers a range of topics including network and computer security, general security concepts, communication security, infrastructure security, operational and organizational security, encryption technologies, system and network security types of attacks, risk management, intrusion detection and prevention, assessing risk, auditing, and security control procedures. The course is designed to prepare students for an industry certification exam.
You will learn:
- Identify and mitigate various types of security threats, such as malware, social engineering, and network attacks.
- Utilize security technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and VPNs, to secure a network.
- Implement security principles and practices in the design and implementation of secure networks and systems.
- Manage user authentication, authorization, and access control to secure sensitive data.
- Respond to security incidents and have a disaster recovery plan in place.

PD0108 Computer Basics
This introductory course is designed for individuals seeking to build foundational computer skills for personal, academic, or professional use. Over six hands-on classes, students will gain practical experience with essential computer applications and tools.
- Class 1: Microsoft Word – Learn how to create, format, and save documents using Microsoft Word.
- Class 2: File Management – Understand how to organize, store, and locate files effectively on a computer.
- Class 3: Email – Set up and use email accounts, including composing messages, managing attachments, and understanding email etiquette.
- Class 4: Internet Basics – Learn how to browse the web safely, search for information, and navigate common websites.
- Class 5: Microsoft PowerPoint – Create engaging presentations with text, images, and transitions.
- Class 6: Final Presentation – Apply the skills learned throughout the course to create and deliver a PowerPoint presentation.
By the end of this course, participants will be comfortable using core computer applications and will have developed confidence to apply their new digital skills in everyday situations.

PD 0109 OSHA 10 Construction Industry Certification
This 10-hour OSHA Construction Safety Training, based on 29 CFR 1926 regulations, is designed for entry-level workers in the construction industry. The course provides essential training on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of jobsite hazards, promoting a culture of safety and regulatory compliance.
Participants will receive instruction on key topics including OSHA’s role, the Focus Four hazards (Falls, Electrocution, Struck-By, and Caught-In/Between), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Health Hazards in Construction, and other important safety practices relevant to construction environments. Students who successfully complete the OSHA 10 course receive an OSHA 10 certification card.

PD 0103 Project Management
The project manager is essential to a construction project’s success, overseeing planning, organizing, estimating, and scheduling from start to finish. For residential, commercial, industrial, or civil projects, they coordinate all phases, applying project management skills to keep construction on time and within budget. Effective managers have strong communication skills, a deep understanding of the building process, and risk management abilities. They may also handle financial challenges, hire workers, and monitor daily site activities. The methodology and techniques covered in the course align with Project Management Institute’s Standards and can help prepare participants for PMP Certification. Upon successful completion of the program participants will receive an industry recognized NCCER certification.
Days & Times: Monday – Thursday, 3 pm – 5:30 pm & Saturday, June 21 & July 12 8 am – 1pm.

CPR Training
BLS Healthcare Provider CPR
Healthcare professionals learn to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR to victims of all ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. This course is recommended for all healthcare providers including Doctors, EMS personnel, Physician Assistants, Dentists, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists and Nursing Assistants. Course length: 4 to 5 hours.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED
This American Heart Association (AHA) approved course teaches basic first aid skills such as removing gloves aseptically, identifying medical emergencies including administration of an Epinephrine Pen, stopping bleeding and proper bandaging techniques and learn basic CPR skills such as performing a head tilt-chin lift, giving high quality chest compressions and breaths as well as basic AED (Automatic External Defibrillation) operations. Skills are taught using AHA’s research proven Practice-While-Watching technique which allows Instructors to observe students, provide feedback and guide students in their acquisition of skills during class.
