Cabinet and Senate Duties (An Abridged List)

  • President: Leader of Student Government. Meet with several members of the campus and community, delegate responsibilities to fellow members including different committees on campus. Be a major representative of the UNM-Valencia Campus and a role model for fellow students.
  • Vice-President: Assist the President with weekly operations. Also, a major representative of UNM-Valencia and a role model to fellow students.
  • Treasurer: Manage the Student Government budget and meet with administrative staff, as well as the Student Government Advisor on a regular basis. Keep track of all spending and administer general accounting duties. Treasurer should be familiar with Microsoft Excel and have some experience when working with budgets/group spending.
  • Secretary: Take notes and minutes of all meetings of the government, create flyers and keep all documents/paperwork from the government archived properly. Secretary should be familiar with Microsoft office including Word and Excel.
  • Senator: Attend all meetings of the government, come up with ideas for the campus and actively participate in those events Student Government hosts throughout the year. Senators are primary representatives of the students, and they are therefore responsible for listening to what the students suggest would make the campus better and bring student issues and concerns into the meetings of the government.

The Student Government is run by students for the purpose of giving the student body a voice on campus. We have a Cabinet consisting of four members and a Senate consisting of 10 members. We provide an opportunity for students to voice complaints or request changes by approaching the administration on the student's behalf.

Elections are held biannually to fill the Senate and Cabinet positions. Student Government also sponsors campus events such as "Student Days" where a variety of fun activities and food is presented for students at no cost.
