Program Description
The program is designed to meet New Mexico state teacher licensing requirements for the first two years of study for prospective 7th through 12th grade teachers. Applicants need a minimum of 26 credit hours and a 2.5 overall GPA for admission to the UNM College of Education. All courses offered are accepted by the UNM College of Education and apply toward a bachelor's degree with teacher licensure for secondary school teaching. Students may also apply this degree to qualify to work as educational assistants in the public schools.Career and Educational Advancement Opportunities
General education and core requirements will articulate with all New Mexico colleges of education. Completion of the associate of arts in Secondary Education enables students to obtain either a bachelor of science in Education, or a bachelor in arts in Education upon transfer to a 4-year institution. The Secondary Education program offers opportunities for students seeking a teaching license (7th through 12th grade) and experienced teachers interested in a scholarly study of their practice.Contact and Advising Information
