UNM-V Library Supports Student Success Year-Round

Research help, technology, study spaces, programs and community resources make the library a year-round partner in learning and connection.

The UNM-Valencia Library provides students with academic support, research assistance, technology and opportunities to connect with the campus community throughout the year. Its services are designed to help students build the skills and confidence they need for success in college, future careers and their communities.

Library staff work with students to develop research topics, locate and evaluate credible information, think critically about sources and use information ethically. The library also partners with faculty to integrate research and information literacy into coursework and support meaningful assignments.

Students and faculty can also take advantage of flexible library instruction. Services include in-class or Zoom instruction, support for online courses, customized Canvas modules, assistance identifying readings and other resources, and tours of library collections and technologies.

Research assistance is available beyond the physical library as well. Students can connect with a librarian through the UNM-Valencia Virtual Reference Desk, schedule individual assistance or use the library's text service for questions and research help.

Beyond academics, the library offers books, technology, study spaces and programs that encourage learning and connection outside the classroom. Activities have included American Sign Language socials and study groups, poetry gatherings, gaming nights, exhibits and the Seed Library. The library also provides Lobo ID services and opportunities for community members to borrow materials.

Community partnerships further expand the library's reach. Increased demand for English as a Second Language tutoring led the Valencia County Literacy Council to expand services into the library, supporting adult learners and families working toward educational and literacy goals.

The library serves a wide range of students, including first-generation college students, returning adult learners, dual-credit students and those balancing school with work and family responsibilities. By combining academic services, technology, programming and community partnerships, the UNM-Valencia Library provides students with a place to learn, connect and find support throughout their college experience.
