Upward Bound coordinates tutoring during the academic year to support students in core high school subjects and provide a supportive learning environment. Program staff and instructors work with students to strengthen academic performance and study skills.
2026-2027 tutoring schedule: Mondays and Thursdays, 2:30-4 p.m., at Belen High School, Los Lunas High School, and Valencia High School.
Academic Year
Saturday Sessions & Workshops
Selected Saturday sessions provide additional academic instruction and workshops that support college readiness, personal development, wellness, financial literacy, career exploration, and other student needs.
2026-2027 Saturday schedule: Saturday sessions are held from 10 a.m.-noon and may fall on the second or third Saturday of each month. Specific dates will be posted as they are confirmed.
College Readiness
Methodize
Methodize is included as part of the program's college-readiness and test-preparation support for students. Students use Methodize during tutoring when they do not have other assignments to complete.

Participation
Stipends & Participation Requirements
Students may receive a stipend of up to $40 per month when they actively participate in the program, meet program expectations, and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. Stipends begin after the 60-day probation period ends, and direct deposit is available for stipend payments.

Student progress is monitored through report cards. At the end of each grading period, the student is responsible for sending a report card to unmvupwardboundprgm@unm.edu for stipend review and including the student's name and school.
