Duncan-Teller receives national biology teachers award

UNM-Valencia faculty member Tammi Duncan-Teller will receive the 2025 Two-Year College Biology Teacher Award from the National Association of Biology Teachers.

This program combines the skills and competencies taught in CNA 101L (Nursing Assistant), PBT 101L/102L (Phlebotomy Technician) and HCHS 111 (Medical Terminology), with English, Mathematics and Computer Science.
The Medical Assistant program does not lead to professional licensure in New Mexico. Medical Assistants are not required to be licensed to work in most healthcare settings. However, while completing the Medical Assistant program students may also complete training that prepares them for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licensure in New Mexico. To become licensed as a CNA, students must pass the New Mexico Nurse Aide Competency Exam and be listed on the New Mexico Nurse Aide Registry. If you plan to become licensed outside of New Mexico, you should speak with your advisor.
Students completing the required courses will be employable in clinics and medical offices with opportunity for career advancement in the healthcare field.
Information about the medical assistant certificate program is available from the Advisement Center at 505.925.8907 or vcadvise@unm.edu, or the Health Sciences Division at 505.925.8970.
