English programs are not just about reading and writing poetry and stories or studying great works of literature. An English degree is a window into the world of confident communication. English majors learn how to read critically and analyze texts (written and otherwise), navigate the roads of rhetoric and propaganda, and persuade others toward ideas that might improve the world. This degree transfers to the bachelor’s program at UNM-Albuquerque.
An Associate in Arts in English degree program provides students with quality instruction in composition and rhetoric, American literature, literary analysis, creative writing, and other core courses to facilitate the mastery of knowledge and the attainment of the skills necessary to complete a bachelor’s degree in English, or a related field.
General information about the Associate of Arts in English degree program is available from the Advisement Center at 505.925.8907 or vcadvise@unm.edu, or the Academic Affairs Office at 505.925.8600.
