ACCUPLACER

If you have not taken the ACT® or SAT® and have not earned previous Math or English credits at a transferable institution, you will need to take the ACCUPLACER® exam to help determine your placement. ACCUPLACER® tests your knowledge in math, reading, and writing. These tests help identify your strengths and needs in each subject area. Academic advisors will use your ACCUPLACER® test results along with information about your goals and interests to help you take courses that match your skill and give you the best chance at a successful college career.

New students registering for more than four (4) semester hours of credit or enrolling in a Math or English course must take a Math and English placement test. Exemptions are made for students who have: 1) ACT® or SAT® scores, or 2) prerequisite course work at other post-secondary institutions.

Students may use the ACCUPLACER® placement as a challenge to their existing ACT® or SAT® score; however, advisors will use the most recent test scores for placement purposes.

ACCUPLACER® Placement tests are offered prior to and during each registration period. Placement tests are administered by the Assessment Center located in the Student Services building. Testing is available by appointment or on a walk-in basis on most weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The test can be stopped and restarted as needed to accommodate time constraints and other needs. Test time averages 1.5 hours to 2 hours but varies depending on skill and needs. Please contact Student Services at (505) 925-8560 to confirm availability and/or schedule your exam.

There is a free ACCUPLACER Study Guide app provided free of charge to prepare for the ACCUPLACER®. The app works on most devices.
