Exercise 1 Search for Information with Databases
- Choose a partner from someone sitting next to you.
(Move if needed) - Right click and open in Class worksheet.
- Fill in worksheet your topic and type of sources your need.
- Choose a database from list on the right.
- Search for a source.
- Fill in your search words and copy and paste the citation into your worksheet.
- Share with your partner your information need.
- Change chairs.
- Find a source for your partner's information need.
- Fill in your search words and copy and paste the citation into your partner's worksheet.
- Go back to your original chair.
- Debrief searching techniques
- Search for another source using new search skills.
- Fill in your search words and copy and paste the citation into your worksheet.
Searching Tips
- Use a different box for each concept of your search topic.
- Use limiters for to select fulltext, or peer-review.
- Revise your search based on results.
- Limit also by date, subject, or words in title.
- Invoke 20 minute rule (nothing in 20 minutes--change database or change words or both)
