What is counseling?

Counseling is a united effort between the counselor and client to identify goals and possible solutions to the issues causing emotional distress in life. Goals may include reducing anxiety, improve self-esteem, coping skills and positive thinking.

How can counseling help me?

Individual counseling is an opportunity for individualized support. Counseling can help you manage with personal, academic, and family issues you are facing.  It involves empowering you while providing education, goal oriented processes, a non-judgmental space and confidentiality. 

How long does counseling take?

Sessions typically last 45-50 minutes and the duration of the counseling process depending on the complexity of the presenting issues and the students comfort level. All services are terminated upon graduation.

How much does counseling cost?

Counseling is free for UNM-Valencia students.
